Coffee Rub

This robust coffee rub is simple, unique, and delicious. With ingredients like coffee and cocoa, this rub helps to enhance the flavor of grilled meat.

All of the ingredients needed to make coffee rub sectioned out on a white plate with an antique silver spoon in the background.

This coffee rub is absolutely delicious.  With ingredients like cocoa powder, brown sugar, and ground coffee, it may be a rub unlike anything you’ve ever tasted.  The rub itself has a very earthy color with a subtle sweetness if tasted by itself.  The sweetness is followed by a touch of heat that is just enough to balance the cocoa and coffee.

What makes this rub different from most you may have in your spice cabinet is how it enhances the flavor of the meat you’re grilling.  This rub can be used on beef, pork, and chicken, but my favorite way to use this is to make coffee rubbed steak. When I’m throwing steaks on the grill, my favorite cuts to use this rub on are ribeye and filet mignon.

Give this rub a try if you’re looking for a different flavor profile than what you might have grilled with in the past.  I think you’ll find our robust coffee rub to be your new favorite seasoning in your spice cabinet.

How To Make This Coffee Rub

To make this coffee rub, all you need to do is combine the following ingredients into a bowl or jar and whisk them together.  Here are the ingredients you will need:

  • Coffee Grounds – helps to tenderize meat and creates a depth of flavor.
  • Brown Sugar – adds just the right amount of sweetness to the rub.
  • Unsweetened Cocoa Powder – brings an earthy and fruity flavor to the seasoning.
  • Salt – brings out the natural flavor of the food.
  • Black Pepper, Paprika, Cayenne, Garlic – the perfect combination of spices to compliment any meat.

How To Use This Coffee Rub Recipe

Once all of the ingredients are whisked together, you are ready to use it on any type of meat you prefer. Simply sprinkle a generous amount onto the meat and massage it so the rub absorbs into the meat and doesn’t fall off when you cook it.  Repeat this step until each piece is completely covered with the coffee rub.

You can use this rub on just about any kind of meat, here are a few of my favorites:

  • Steak
  • Burgers
  • Pork
  • Chicken

Tips

  • Want to add extra flavor?  Use smoked paprika instead of regular paprika and freshly cracked black pepper.
  • Don’t like spicy food?  Simply leave out the ground cayenne.
  • Want even more spice? You can easily double the ground cayenne or substitute your favorite ground chile.
  • Want more texture?  Try using sea salt, coarse black pepper, and dried minced garlic.
